Purpose

The Certified Elder Life Care Manager credential is dedicated to the credentialing of health and human service professionals who provide life care planning/ management services to elderly individuals with health and/or disability issues. This credential assesses one's knowledge of care planning and care management principles and practices for public persons who are defined by the U.S. government standards as meeting elderly criteria, as well as those elderly persons who have a disability.

Qualifications

The certification candidate must meet the minimum continuing education hours and any one of the educational/degree criteria before being eligible to sit for the CELCM examination:

The ICHCC requires the following criteria to be met by all candidates in order to qualify to sit for the examination:

Ø    Each candidate must have a minimum of 60 hours of post-graduate or post-specialty degree training in elder life care management. There must be 45 hours of training in:

o   concepts related to gerontology;  

o   client/ patient assessment

o   care planning and communication

o   ethical, legal and business aspects of managing elder care
 

 Recertification

The Certified Elder Life Care Manager professional must have his or her CELCM credential renewed every 3 years by demonstration of 30 hours of (ICHCC approved) continuing education hours
